Camera Mount

Recording my catch is an important part of my days fishing. Tired of having pictures of my feet in the frame I decided it was time to look for an alternative method.

Thumbing through a Jessops photography catalogue I came across a Ball and Socket Head, this is perfect to hold the camera in position and also at the correct angle. A Camera Retaining Screw was also required as the base of the Ball and Socket Head has a non standard thread.

This camera mount could be positioned anywhere on the deck, but I have chosen to add it to my Scotty T-bar Rod holder in the central position, keeping the camera high and out of the splash zone.

To accommodate the camera mount I had to make a 10mm thick plastic cover to fit the Scotty Swivel Fishfinder Mount (product No. 269) and by placing the the Camera Retaining Screw inside the Mount with just the thread above the cover I am able to screw the camera directly to the base or add the Ball and Socket Head to give more flexibility over the position and angle of the camera.

For Rough weather I use a 35mm Canon Sureshot A1 Waterproof camera, if the sea is calm then I mount my Digital Sony Cybershot, protecting it with a bag whilst not in use. The Cybershot is kept in a Watertight Otterbox container whilst launching.
